With California voters approving new congressional districts with the passage of Proposition 50 on Tuesday, the state’s longest-serving GOP member of Congress — Rep. Ken Calvert — announced Wednesday that he plans to run in a newly drawn district currently represented by a fellow Republican.
That means he'll no longer represent parts of the Coachella Valley, as he has since the 2022 election.
The new maps effectively erase the state’s existing 41st Congressional District represented by Calvert, instead redrawing it into a Democratic-leaning area in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The map's approval forced a re-election decision for Calvert, a Corona-based businessman who’s represented parts of Riverside County in Congress since 1993.
