Following a day of water and air quality testing, Jefferson County Public School leaders gave the greenlight for students and staff to return to school buildings Nov. 6, two days after a deadly plane crash sent debris and a massive plume of smoke across Louisville.
Around 5:15 p.m. Nov. 4, a UPS plane crashed near the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. The plane, an MD-11 , was headed for Honolulu with three crew members on board when it crashed shortly after take off, UPS confirmed. The crash hit two businesses in the area and caused widespread fires, prompting a massive emergency response and a shelter-in-place order that stretched from the area around the airport northward to the Ohio River.
