OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A new addition to Oak Ridge’s Civil War Trails Network will be unveiled on Nov. 12 at 4:00 p.m.

The ceremony will be a dedication of the new Elijah Wood Civil War Trails Marker. Wood was born into slavery in the area that became Oak Ridge before serving in the First United States Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment.

“Wood volunteered for the Union Army in August 1864, and his regiment defended strategic military locations across Tennessee, Alabama and North Carolina, including supporting Union General George Stoneman’s 1865 Raid, which significantly aided military operations,” Oak Ridge in a news release said.

The Oak Ridge Civil War trails network connects over 1,400 sites across six states, and the newest trail marker hits close to home for many in the city.
