The Louisiana Department of Health says federal SNAP benefits will resume for all eligible recipients in the state starting Friday. SNAP offices across Louisiana have reopened, and staff are back at work.

This announcement follows the Trump administration’s decision to restart SNAP food benefits, but recipients will receive only about half of what they normally get each month.

The administration says it’s using money from a U.S. Department of Agriculture contingency fund, which holds about $4.65 billion, roughly half of what’s needed to cover a full month of SNAP payments nationwide.

Most recipients will see their benefits issued on their regular distribution date, but at a reduced amount.
