More than 300 people attended the Porterville Fair Heritage Association's third annual Ranch Team Sorting and Steak dinner fundraiser on Saturday at the Porterville Fairgrounds.

At the beginning of the evening, all 20 ranch sorting teams were auctioned off in a CALCUTTA to the highest bidders. The buyers of a team win money based on their team's placing in the sorting. Seventy of the total sales of the teams is paid back to the buyers of the top four placing teams.

The sorting teams then competed for prize money and belt buckles in the timed event that combined riding skills, well trained horses with "cattle sense" and the luck of the draw.

The whole event was high energy, from the sorting teams of two individuals showing their riding skills, to the actual sorting of the numbered cattle
