Despite being a highly-successful musician in his own right, Jimmy Barnes' older brother admits he is living in the shadow of his sibling - but it's not something he cares about.

John Swan, known as Swanee, 73, has opened up about his past traumas, drug use and his family , including his famous sibling, Jimmy, and the shadow that has been cast over him.

"Not many people touch on it, and I think they're just polite," he said.

"But ... it's a reality."

The older brother, who has always been close with and proud of all his siblings, has never let any perceived rivalry get to him.

"I didn't really give a stuff, because I got offered the gig before he did," he said.

And that gig? Lead singer of Cold Chisel.
