LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The UPS plane involved in Tuesday’s fatal crash spent most of September and October at a maintenance facility in San Antonio.
Records filed to an FAA database reported issues with rust and a crack inside of the plane.
Flight records show the MD-11 flew to San Antonio Sept. 3, it didn’t leave until Oct. 18.
UPS has a maintenance contractor there who works on its MD-11 fleet. It operates 27 of these planes.
The records uploaded to the FAA Service Difficulty Reporting System show workers discovered rust on structural parts in two separate areas in the bilge area of the plane.
They also found a cracked stringer near the center wing upper fuel tank.
These reports are voluntary, meant to help track common problems so the FAA can issue recalls known as airworthiness
