The Baltimore City phone system experienced intermittent outages and longer hold times Wednesday because of a high volume of residents calling for SNAP and food assistance, the Baltimore City Comptroller’s office said.
Calls to 311 are mainly affected by the intermittent outages and 911 calls have not been affected, according to a news release from the Department of Telecommunications, which is overseen by City Comptroller Bill Henry.
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, there were approximately 170 calls waiting in the Baltimore phone system’s queue for issues mostly related to food and SNAP assistance, officials said.
