Cayden Lehr skipped school to see robots.

Driving two hours from Erie with his dad Dan Lehr, 12-year-old Cayden said it felt “amazing” to be at Robotics and AI Discovery Day instead of in a sixth grade classroom.

He and thousands of other people — career professionals, toddlers, students on school field trips, college undergraduates, and even Pittsburgh’s new Mayor-elect Corey O'Connor — took Wednesday to roam with robots in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

In the “Robotics” zone, people fawned over Agility Robotics’ blue and silver humanoid, “Digit.” Digit smiled back and waved at its audience. Digit works in Amazon warehouses, and can move up to 35 pounds of product. It stands at 5 foot 9 inches.

When it was done with its demo, Digit crouched down and plopped over.
