KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kansas' congressional lines will not be redrawn this year. House Republicans failed to get enough signatures on a petition that would force a special session.

Kansas City, Kansas was impacted a lot by the most recent redistricting effort three years ago.

The northern half of Wyandotte County, north of the Kansas River is in Congressional District 2, represented by Republican Derek Schmidt. The area south of the Kansas River is represented by Democrat Sharice Davids in Congressional District 3.

Davids says her team will be ready for what's ahead in the coming months.

Republican State Senate President Ty Masterson says redistricting will be a top priority when the legislature comes back to Topeka in January of 2026. Davids has not ruled out running against Republican
