OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee Forestry seniors with the School of Natural Resources had their first prescribed burn of the semester. The prescribed fire management class is a part of UT's Forestry Camp, which is the longest-running educational effort at Ames.
"We get the chance to do the things instead of just learn about it in a classroom," UT student Sean Ryan said. "It's really important for us to understand what it looks like and how it impacts the land, instead of just learning about it and not knowing, going into our first job."
Ryan said he wants to work with land management post-grad, and getting the practical experience is crucial when working with fire. Classmate Finley Oldham said the same.
"It's job experience, but you are doing it at school for practice," Oldha
