ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Painted Post man has been convicted by a federal jury of economic espionage and theft of trade secrets in connection with sensitive defense research he stole from his employer to benefit a Chinese government program.
Ji Wang, 63, was found guilty of two counts of economic espionage, one count of theft of trade secrets, one count of attempted economic espionage, and one count of attempted theft of trade secrets, according to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Western District of New York.
Federal prosecutors said Wang, a former Corning Incorporated employee, took hundreds of files in 2016 containing data and manufacturing technology from a research project funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
