Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is urging drivers to exercise extreme caution on provincial roads, warning that October and November are the deadliest months for collisions involving wildlife, according to new data.
The public insurer reports that 22 per cent of all annual wildlife-vehicle collisions occur during these two fall months, when animals are most active at dawn and dusk, particularly along treed areas.
So far in 2025, MPI has recorded 9,419 wildlife collisions, with the historically busiest month—November—still to be tallied. In 2024, the total reached 17,195, with November recording the highest single monthly total at 2,019 crashes.
