MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — A former Meriwether County firefighter has been arrested and charged in a child molestation case, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on Monday .

The GBI said 69-year-old Mark Thompson of Luthersville was facing two counts of child molestation in the case.

The bureau said in a release Thompson was still an active firefighter with the Meriwether County Fire Department at the time of the investigation, but he was terminated after the department was notified of an investigation. The release said the Meriwether County department "has been cooperative with the investigation."

He was arrested and booked into the Meriwether County Jail on October 31.

The GBI did not have details about what led to the charges against Thompson.
