GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- Mesa County election officials report that just over 44% of active voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s coordinated election, a turnout higher than the national average for local races.
More than 52,000 ballots were submitted out of roughly 118,000 eligible voters in the county. While participation dipped slightly compared to previous elections, Clerk and Recorder Bobbie Gross said the numbers remain strong.
“Looking back at historical coordinated elections, it’s just a slight trend down,” Gross said. “In 2021, turnout was 48%. In 2023, it was 45%. So this year’s results show just a slight tick down in ballots returned.”
Gross said that although voter participation saw a small decline, the election process is still ongoing.
