Metro Vancouver’s Filipino community rejoiced to see funding support in Tuesday’s federal budget for a long-awaited “permanent cultural home” of the region’s Filipino-Canadian community.
The federal government’s 2025 budget highlighted a new Filipino cultural and community centre as one of the projects supported by a new federal infrastructure fund that would provide $51 billion over the next decade.
Lester De Guzman, chair of Mabuhay House Society, said the inclusion of a Filipino cultural and community centre is a “compelling and telling commitment” by the federal government and a recognition of the Filipino community’s social, economic and cultural contributions to Canada.
