Niwot and Broomfield won regional championships over the weekend and now they’re eyeing state titles.

The Cougars won the 4A team championships a year ago behind all-around winner Evie Saunders. They’ll head into this year’s state meet looking like the favorite after they posted the best regional score in the state (4A and 5A) at 181.250 at Arvada West.

Broomfield wasn’t far behind, though. The Eagles owned the second-best mark last week as they won their 5A regional at AW with a score of 180.475.

At the three-day state meet at Thornton High School starting Thursday, the Eagles will look to put an end to Mountain Range’s quest for a three-peat at the 5A meet. Competition starts at 1:10 p.m.

Then Friday, the Cougars will aim for their eighth title in program history at the 4A meet. And
