Fort Wayne officials have proactively rezoned several areas around East State Boulevard to promote future developments that fit in the northeast neighborhood.
More than 20.5 acres of land along State was rezoned when Fort Wayne City Council unanimously approved a package of ordinances Tuesday.
The package is part of the Historic Northeast 2035 Plan. Adopted by council in 2024, the plan recommends rezoning areas along State, Spy Run Avenue and Florida Drive to more appropriate zoning districts to encourage compatible land uses and development patterns, the city website said.
Michelle Wood, senior planner with the Department of Planning Services, said the areas are roughly from the St. Joe River to Parnell Avenue and from Kentucky Avenue to near Alabama Avenue.
