The nonprofit behind much of Lake County's recovery efforts over the past week and a half said it's calling around to try to rustle up volunteers to help affected residents, many of whom do not have flood insurance, with repairs to their homes.
From Sorrento to Mount Dora to Eustis, Lake Support & Emergency Recovery (or LASER) has taken the lead in bringing volunteers to the county to help with remediation.
The goal was to dry out flooded homes as quickly as possible. But now, the goal is shifting to repair.
"This storm has been one of a kind. I've lived here all my life; I've never seen something like this," said Brandi Martin, executive director of LASER.
"We're just doing what we know, and that's trying to do everything to get these homeowners back to what it was before this flood
