President Donald Trump said he wished the best for his home of New York City but that Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani was off to a bad start.

Trump had pushed against Mamdani hard during the mayoral election, giving a last-minute endorsement to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a last desperate attempt to prevent his home city from electing its first socialist mayor. After Mamdani swept his competition on Tuesday, Trump adopted a pessimistic view toward the city.
