RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Animal Care and Control is participating in a community Thanksgiving food drive for the first time, hoping to raise $26,000 to help feed around 2,000 families during the holiday season.
The shelter is one of around 30 organizations taking part in the Harvest RVA Community Thanksgiving Distribution at Richmond Raceway on Nov. 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“We have never done a Thanksgiving drive before for people, but we thought we had nothing to lose. Even if we raise $13, that will be enough to help one person,” said Christie Chipps-Peters, director of RACC.
The shelter’s goal is ambitious but achievable, according to Chipps-Peters.
