WILLIAMSPORT — A former top executive of Weis Markets claims the food store chain owes him more than $4 million in unpaid wages and benefits.
A suit filed Tuesday in the U.S. Middle District Court by former chief operating officer Kurt Schertle relates to his October 2024 separation from the Sunbury-based company.
He contends he was never sent a formal termination letter or explicitly told he was fired.
Weis hired him in 2009 as senior vice president of sales and marketing, which made him a participant in the firm’s supplemental executive retirement plan (SERP).
In 2011, Weis, as an incentive to keep Schertle, who was being recruited by a competitor, agreed to credit his SERP account an additional $100,000 annually for five years.
