WASHINGTON — Alexander Ovechkin continues to go where no man has gone before.
The Washington Capitals legend scored his 900th career goal tonight at home against the St. Louis Blues.
The Great 8 catapulted himself into the realm of hockey’s icons last year when he broke Wayne Gretzky’s all time goals record, scoring his 895th goal April 6 in a loss to the Islanders.
Ovechkin is the only player in NHL history to record 18 40-goal seasons and he’s the only player to score 200 goals in three different decades.
Ovechkin also has nine Hart Trophies.
With Ovechkin, the Capitals won their first Stanley Cup in 2018.
The Capitals went on to win the game 6-1.
Going into Wednesday night’s contest, Washington had a 6-5-1 record.
