It took St. Paul coach Tony Smith two chances to become the 30th coach in state history to reach 200 career wins.
But a week after the Buckaroos fell to Lowell in a nonleague game, the defending 2A state champions rolled past Regis 61-0 in a Special District 2 finale that gave Smith his milestone victory in his 28th season roaming the sidelines.
“200 wins are great, but I think it speaks to a lot more than just me,” said Smith, who is 200-95 with stints at Willamina, Silverton and for the past 18 years at St. Paul, where he’s won three state championships.
