COLUMBUS, Ohio — Several hundred homes in Delaware County were evacuated Wednesday evening due to a natural gas leak , according to the Columbus Division of Fire.
Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter told 10TV that firefighters were called shortly before 6 p.m. to a home in the 9000 block of Emerald Hill Drive, east of U.S. Route 23 in Lewis Center, on a report of a natural gas leak.
Arriving crews smelled gas as they received additional calls from nearby homes, prompting another response, Geitter said.
Firefighters then began shutting off gas and evacuating residents, moving door to door to alert them.
No gas was found inside any homes firefighters checked, according to Geitter. No injuries were reported.
