Auburn, N.Y. — A police officer, sheriff’s deputy and neighbor helped rescue a man from a house fire in Auburn on Wednesday, according to police.

Auburn police officer Paul Flickner was on routine patrol around 4:01 p.m. when he saw a report of a fire at 39 Perry St. on his car computer, the Auburn police Department said in a news release.

He was just a few blocks away and arrived within two minutes of the call. When Flickner got there, he saw flames coming from the back of the house and heavy black smoke pouring from the front door and windows, police said.

A neighbor told him that dogs had escaped from the house, but that people may still be inside.
