A Middlesex County woman cruised to victory on "Jeopardy!", Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Allegra Kuney, a Ph.D. candidate at Rutgers University and a New Brunswick resident, defeated Sofia Meisburger, a proposal writer from Washington, D.C. and returning champion Joseph Evans, a middle school history teacher from Beltsville, Maryland on the venerable game show.

In the first round, Kuney, a West Nyack native, and Evans got off to hot starts, with Kuney getting 11 clues correct with only two wrong, while Evans got 9 clues correct. Thanks to a Daily Double, Kuney led Evans $6,700 to $5,200 with Meisburger at $2,000.

Kuney, who performed at a talent show at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament dominated in Double Jeopardy, getting 26 clues correct, including both Daily Doubles while Evans and Meisburger lagged behind.

Going into Final Jeopardy, Kuney led  $25,800 to Evans' $9,600 with Meisburger trailing with $3,600.

The Final Jeopardy clue:

All three contestants got the clue correct, but Kuney played it safe, wagering only $800, ending her night with $26,600 while Evans finished with $10,406 and Meisburger with $7,199.

Kuney will be making her second appearance on Jeopardy on Thursday, Nov. 6. At Rutgers she is researching digital religion and spirituality, platform studies, and misinformation/disinformation in online communities.
