A Sunland homeowner has transformed her Little Free Library into Little Free Food Pantry by replacing the books with food during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

“Until SNAP benefits are fully restored, this Little Free Library is going to be a little free food pantry,” said Mary Soracco. “You can come and take anything you need.”

A few weeks back, Soracco replaced her community books with canned goods, pasta, fresh fruit and snacks.

The longtime Sunland resident said it’s the least she can do to help federal workers and those receiving a portion of their usual SNAP benefits, known in California as CalFresh.
