High-level talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan are set to resume today in Turkey. The development followed weeks of tension between the two countries. Ahead of the crucial meeting, Pak Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a stark warning to Taliban. He said that if the negotiations collapse, it would force them to get into a ‘war’ with the Taliban.

Asif was responding to a journalist’s question, “If the talks fail, the situation will worsen. We have our options. We can respond in the same manner as we are being targeted.” When asked if this meant war, Asif replied, “Yes… only war.”
