ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - The ongoing federal government shutdown is officially the longest in U.S. history, and many families across Monroe County are feeling the effects.
Just a few weeks after Evangela "Van" Stanley at People's Choice Kitchen in Rochester's 19th Ward shared her effort to assist those who have been impacted, another restaurant owner in the Park Avenue neighborhood decided to do his part.
Owner of The Hideaway, Max Gordon plans to begin offering free meals to families in need as a result of the shutdown starting this Thursday. He shared what made him decide to help others.
"When I started to see everything that was happening with SNAP benefits, I felt that it was one of my obligations and duties [to help] and a great way to be part of the community," Gordon said.
