BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) -- Connecticut state law now allows retired police officers to be employed by school district and carry a firearm on public school grounds. A vote was held in Bristol on Wednesday night to determine if the city wants to act on that opportunity.
Bristol Public Schools voted unanimously on Wednesday to allow armed security guards on staff inside schools -- that will only be one person for now, the school district's director of security.
The goal is for Bristol Public Schools Director of Security Stephen Cabelus, who said he'll be able to patrol at any public school in the city, to engage in prevention as much as protection.
