COLUMBIA, S.C. — Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says travelers should brace for more frustration as the Federal Aviation Administration announces a 10 percent reduction in air traffic across 40 major markets.

The FAA says the move is necessary to maintain safety amid a nationwide shortage of air traffic controllers, many of whom have been working without pay since the government shutdown began October 1.

At Columbia Metropolitan Airport, some passengers say they’re already noticing delays and worry more are ahead.

“I think with future travel, if the government shutdown has not been resolved, then there will probably be longer lines,” said Columbia resident Monique Brown. “I did have some delays, but the delay was probably half an hour. But I think I probably will have long lines in
