BEAUMONT, Texas — Emergency repairs on eastbound Interstate 10 in Beaumont wrapped up early Thursday morning after hours of backups that left many drivers frustrated and delayed.
The Texas Department of Transportation said crews worked from 1 p.m. Wednesday until about 2 a.m. Thursday to repair a “broken armor joint with exposed steel.” Only one lane remained open for nearly 13 hours, causing major congestion across the city.
Several Southeast Texans told 12News that traffic came to a standstill for up to an hour as crews made the fixes.
“It was very, very bad. We didn’t get home for at least two and a half hours. We were sitting there not moving," said Nederland resident Rylea Lane.
