Three Section XI field hockey teams earned county crowns in the Suffolk Class A, B and C championships on Tuesday in Rocky Point.
No. 1 Sachem East notched a 2-1 victory over second-seeded Ward Melville to earn its second straight Class A county title with goals from Ashley Miller and Brooke Wasson. The team improved to 18-0 and will host Massapequa in the Long Island Class A championship at 10 a.m. Sunday.
“I’m elated for them,” coach Tina Moon said in an interview with WSHR Sachem Radio on Tuesday. “We worked really hard to do this back-to-back. We lost some really key players last year and to have others step up, I’m super proud. I never expected to go undefeated.”
Isabella Sharp-Senior and Kacey Berger each tallied an assist in the win. Hadley Torre scored and Alex Cotlet made five
