A man has died after being trapped for hours inside a cherry picker that crashed into a railway bridge in NSW’s central west.

Two men were inside the vehicle when it struck the disused bridge on Inch St in Lithgow about 8.50am on Thursday.

Footage from the scene shows the bridge collapsing onto the truck, blocking the road.

The 38-year-old driver managed to free himself, but the 34-year-old passenger remained trapped.

Despite hours of efforts from emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and taken to Lithgow Hospital, where he underwent mandatory testing.

Police confirmed both men were Sydney Trains employees.

Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with dashcam footage or information has been urged to come forward.
