A man was arrested and accused of stealing school items in Fremont and across the Bay Area, police said Wednesday.

Monday, authorities report officers arrested Christopher Britton, a Fairfield resident, when he was trying to run away in a rental car. Police said Bretton was the suspect responsible for a series of school burglaries throughout the Bay Area.

Authorities said the suspect provided conflicting explanations for being on campus when confronted by staff and then left. Police add Fremont Police School Resource Officers began to receive additional reports of missing items from classrooms at multiple schools across the district.
