A 44-year-old man has been arrested following the death of his ex-girlfriend in Sydney’s east, six months after she went through a glass door and fatally sliced an artery.

Claire Austin, 38, lacerated an artery in her left arm when she allegedly tried to push through a sliding door in her Randwick apartment to escape a domestic violence attack on April 12 this year.

Police were called to the unit about 7.40am upon reports of concern for welfare where they found her bleeding in urgent need of assistance.

Emergency services rushed to save her life and took her to nearby St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition where she passed three days later while on life support.

Police believe the marketing manager rushed through the door in order to escape a domestic violence incident.
