The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday, November 5, released its AI Governance Report, outlining India’s evolving policy approach to artificial intelligence .

Speaking at the launch, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said the government is taking a “conscious and deliberative approach” by not leading with regulation but instead enabling innovation.

“AI is redefining discourse globally. We have deliberately chosen not to start with regulation, but to ensure every opportunity is provided to help innovation thrive,” Krishnan said.

He emphasised that India’s framework for AI governance will be shaped through extensive consultations and effective use of existing laws before introducing any new regulations.
