On the heels of acres of land adjacent to Utah's national parks open for oil drilling leases , another southwest national park is finding itself in the spotlight for a similar reason.
The Trump Administration is preparing to potentially revoke a protective land order around Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico . The move would allow the land to be leased for oil drilling.
The Administration has sent out a letter to local Native American tribes to begin formal discussions to change the protection status of the land. If revoked, more than 330,000 acres of land around Chaco Cultural National Historical Park and the UNESCO Heritage Site could be for sale.
