SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department (SPD) released video on Wednesday from the fatal Oct. 30 officer-involved shooting in SODO .
SPD said its release was “intended to balance the integrity and credibility of an investigation with public transparency” and was authorized by the King County Sheriff’s Office, which is serving as the independent investigative team.
According to SPD, officers were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to reports of a man holding an ax near Fifth Avenue South and South Holgate Street. Officers tried to speak with the man and used less-than-lethal tools, but police said the suspect then produced a firearm, prompting several officers to open fire. The man died at the scene.
