California voters have approved Proposition 50, a ballot measure allowing the state legislature—rather than the independent redistricting commission—to draw new congressional maps for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections. The initiative, backed by Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders, passed by a wide margin on Tuesday.
According to the Election Summary Report on the Statewide Special Election in Imperial County, at the time of this publication, 60.07% of voters voted YES, and 39.93% voted NO. According to the Election Summary Report, 13,934 of 94,429 (14.76%) ballots were counted as of Tuesday night.
