Aimee Lou Wood felt supported by her co-star Angelina Jolie when she stuck up for herself on the set of their movie Anxious People. The White Lotus star appears alongside the Oscar-winning actress in the upcoming dark comedy, in which a bunch of strangers become hostages during a holiday open house when an amateur criminal's plan goes awry. During an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Wood recalled standing up to the crew while filming an emotional scene and receiving a subtle nod of support from Jolie. The Sex Education star explained that she was being shouted at by multiple members of the crew and felt unable to focus on the scene at hand, so she spoke up for what she needed and told them that there had to be one direction, one voice and no hand movements in her line of sight. "I've spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative - but now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won't work for me," she said of the moment. "When I spoke up, all I could see was Angelina giving me a thumbs up." Wood noted that she didn't feel intimidated working with the Hollywood A-lister because Jolie felt "so normal" on set. "She's possibly the most famous woman ever, but she's so normal. I'm fairly certain she drives herself to set each day..." she added. Anxious People, based on the 2019 novel by Swedish writer Fredrik Backman, also stars Jason Segel, Lennie James, Baby Reindeer's Jessica Gunning and Carol Kane. The film is currently in post-production, and the release date has yet to be announced.
