The Yuma Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week program designed to give residents an inside look at how the department operates.
The free academy begins Tuesday, Jan. 6, and Wednesday, Jan. 7, with classes held weekly from 6 to 9 p.m. – and occasionally until 10 p.m. – at the Yuma Police Department, 1500 S. 1st Ave., and the Public Safety Training Facility. Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for March 24 and 25.
Participants will learn about various aspects of police work through classroom instruction and hands-on training. Topics include firearms safety, driving techniques, K9 demonstrations, narcotics investigations, gang enforcement, DUI laws, animal control and crime scene processing.
