The controversial sculpture that dominated public art conversations this summer is now standing tall over Broad Ripple. A crew installed "Gavin-Divergence," a 30-foot-tall metal figurative man, in the first few days of November.

Gavin's journey to the high-profile intersection of College Avenue and Westfield Boulevard first came to public attention at a February meeting where it received a positive response. Tag Birge, a real-estate developer and investor who co-founded the Birge Family Foundation, spearheaded the piece to reinvigorate what he called the city's woefully underfunded arts infrastructure.

The foundation commissioned the work from artist Jason Myers, whose main U.S. studio is in his hometown of Logansport. Myers told IndyStar in July that he designed "Gavin-Divergence" to
