As a veteran elementary school teacher, union member, wife and mother of four Chicago Public Schools graduates, I have spent my life raising a family and teaching in the city that I love. I know firsthand what happens when we invest in people. I also know what happens when we don’t.

That’s why I’m urging Chicagoans to stand with Mayor Brandon Johnson’s 2026 budget. This is more than a budget — it’s a line of defense against President Donald Trump and a statement of values.

It’s about who we are as a city and whose side we’re on. An October poll of 600 registered voters, conducted by HIT Strategies, found that an unheard-of majority — 90% of Black and Latino Chicagoans — prefer that the city raise taxes on ultra-wealthy corporations.
