PADUCAH, Ky. (WEHT) - On November 6, 2005, a tornado touched down in the Tri-State and close to 30 lives were lost. But countless lives were saved thanks to one person two hours away at the National Weather Service office in Paducah.

Christine Wielgos is the warning coordinating meteorologist at the office, and on that morning she was watching the radar, eyeing storm cells that were initially thought to only cause damaging winds. But as the storm strengthened, she recalled the moment she issued the warning.

Thanks to advances in technology, meteorologists can now get the word out faster as to what is happening and can even tell if there is debris being sucked into a storm. But at that time, Wielgos says she feels there was no way the warning could have been issued any earlier.
