With the announcement of list of 237 candidates for the upcoming February 2026 election to the National Assembly , the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), considered by observers as the rightful successor to the ousted Awami League, has launched the process of active electioneering. But the party seems to have incurred the hostility of fundamentalist and anti-social elements owing allegiance to the Yunus sponsored and newly formed National Citizens Party (NCP). This is evident from the attack yesterday in the evening on the BNP Chittagong-8 seat candidate and the party’s convener in the Chittagong metropolitan city, Ershad Ullah (60).
