SEATAC, Wash. — The FAA will reduce flights going out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) during the ongoing government shutdown, according to a list obtained by the Associated Press .
The airport will reduce flights gradually, as opposed to cutting 10% all at once, according to a statement from Port of Seattle Commissioner Sam Cho.
SEA is one among dozens across the country. The FAA plans to cut between 3,500 and 4,000 flights nationwide.
The FAA announced plans Wednesday to reduce air traffic nationwide by 10% due to strain on air traffic controllers during the government shutdown. Federal employees, like air traffic controllers and TSA agents, are not getting paid while the government remains closed. It is now the longest shutdown in the nation's history.
