Jennifer Lawrence is comfortable with her "Die My Love" costar Robert Pattinson. She can't say the same for the rest of Hollywood.
The "Hunger Games" star opened up about the use of an intimacy coordinator on set of the film adaptation, saying she didn't feel the need for it because the "Dune: Part Three" star is "not pervy."
"We did not have one, or maybe we did, but we didn't really … I felt really safe with him," she said on the Nov. 5 episode of the "Las Culturistas" podcast. "He's not pervy, and he's very in love with (partner) Suki (Waterhouse). We mostly were talking about our kids and relationships, so there wasn't any weird (energy), like, 'Does he think I like him?'"
Lawrence, 35, added, "If there was a little bit of that, I would probably have an intimacy coordinator."
Intimacy coordinators are hired for scenes involving nudity, simulated sex or other intimate scenes. They act as the buffer between actors and production, choreographing physical interactions and advocating for performers through comfort and boundaries on set.
Assistance is needed with some male costars more than others, she said.
"A lot of male actors get offended if you don't want to (have sex with) them, and then the punishment starts. But he was not like that, for the record," the "Mother" actress continued.
In "Die My Love" (in theaters Nov. 7), Lawrence plays a new mom named Grace who's grown disillusioned with her quiet, rural existence. Pattison plays young dad Jackson, who has no idea how to support his unpredictable girlfriend after she gives birth. The movie, an exploration of postpartum depression and based on Ariana Harwicz's 2017 novel of the same name, is generating early Oscar buzz.
