COLUMBUS (WJW) - The parents of murdered Cleveland Police Officer Jamieson Ritter are demanding state lawmakers fix what they believe is a broken system.

On Wednesday, Karen and Jon Ritter, Officer Ritter's parents, and Cuyahoga County prosecutors testified during a state senate hearing asking for changes to be made when it comes to the amount of time that is given to prosecutors to have a defendant restored to competency.

"We are not urging, we are pleading with you at this point," said Jon Ritter. "We are pleading."

Cuyahoga County prosecutors said there is a breakdown in the system when defendants are found not competent to stand trial.
